Spoelklippies Farm is only a 3-hour drive from Gauteng, tucked
away in the spectacular Mountains of Mpumalanga, off the R36 road between
Machadadorp and Lydenburg. This is an enchanting, tranquil escape with
special mountain magic and is highly recommended for its warm hospitality
and comfortable accommodation in an outdoor, Safari camp environment.
We would arrive around 16h00 where a briefing will take place on the weekends
activities. Take a leisurely walk to acquaint yourself with the beautiful
area and enjoy a Potjie dinner around the campfire. After breakfast you
will have an option of doing a refresher Driver training course on a broad
range of driving and recovery skills, which we encourage with your family.
Alternatively there is other activities offered at Spoelklippies Farm
e.g. Hiking, Archery, Mountain biking, Trout Fishing & Horse Riding. (Please
supply own fishing equipment and mountain bikes).
A lunch will be served at the Water-lily Dam and we will then depart
in convoy with your Eco guide for the 4x4 trail to the top of the Spoelklippies
Farm mountains through spectacular scenery where time is taken to spot
the natural wild life and birds and to enjoy the breathtaking views, the
indigenous forests with sparkling springs and ruins from the Anglo-Boer
War. Return to the Camp for a Scrumptious braai around the campfire. A
cash bar will be available. The following day will begin with a buffet
breakfast and after checking out we will depart in convoy with an eco
guide for the exclusive 4x4 trail into the wild Donkerhoek valley. We
will drive up an old, rugged mountain pass, where time will be spent eradicating
alien trees and rehabilitating the old road. You will stop at the Anglo-Boer
War ruins, which are very well preserved and from there you drive on to
Dullstroom along the scenic gravel farm roads. Enjoy a lunch at the Poacher
restaurant in Dullstroom. Depart for home at your leisure

This is still a must see 4x4 experience, especially those that have never
done any official 4x4 driver training, as we combine our Advanced 1 &
II courses on this 2/3 day weekend. We are based around the Mazeppa Bay
area, which also forms the base for our accommodation. Besides the stunning
resort, we are in the middle of all the major obstacles and start on day
1 en route to the hotel as we cross the Kei River via the Pont. We pass
the gates at Trennerys and move along the coast to the Jacaranda Wreck.
Enjoy breathtaking views from the top of the Amphitheatre and negotiate
a couple of river crossings before finally reaching Mazeppa Bay Hotel.
The next day is taken up by negotiating the infamous gorge! Only diff
lock, high clearance vehicles can participate in this one and it is not
for the fainthearted. Preferably vehicles with no running boards and prepare
for your vehicle to get to know the bush VERY well! All 4x4 owners MUST
experience this unique & untouched part of the Eastern Cape.

Enjoy the splendor of the Baviaanskloof Mountain range in the distance

and hopefully if it's a good day try and spot Cape St. Francis in the
distance! This trip takes place over 2 days starting on a Friday morning
early as we set of for Kareedouw. We stop halfway at the local hotel for
a thirst quencher and lunch before we set off again for the farm about
a 45min drive. Arrive and settle in the comfortable accommodation at Baviaans
Lodge before we depart on a nice easy drive up the Kouga Mountains. We
arrive back in time for sundowners and an African braai/potjie. Next morning,
we enjoy breakfast before we set off to the Kouga River camp. Arriving
there, we enjoy a light picnic lunch before we set off on a slightly more
demanding 4x4 drive. The scenery is filled with protea and cycads and
breathtaking mountain scenery. We arrive back and the more adventurous
can try their hand at abseiling (at an extra cost) before we start unwinding
in the lapa. Once again, we enjoy a true African winters night under the
stars and enjoy the sounds of the bush before we retire to our elevated
tree tents. The next morning, we depart after breakfast for another short
drive before we head back to Port Elizabeth. Optional adrenalin activities
such as river crocking and abseiling can be included at an extra cost
into the weekend.

Twisted and faulted, seared by a blistering sun, the 160 000ha or crenellated
lava mountains and sandy plains of the northwestern crook of the Orange
River form southern Africa's largest mountain desert park. Though surrealistically
harsh and as dry as a bleached skull, the rugged Richtersveld is a botanist's
living laboratory; the Richtersveld is one of the world's most precious
and fragile ecosystems. With less than 50mm of rain annually, it harbours
leopards, lizards, adventurers and a surprising number of indigenous people
who, as goat herds, live lives unchanged from those lived by their hardy
ancestors. Paradoxically beautiful, its weird rock formations shaped and
sculptured by the wind and sun, it is a land for those keen to "rough
it". You can explore it from the comfort of your 4x4 or paddle along stretches
of river, taking in the awe-inspiring, seldom-seen purity of an unspoilt
wilderness. This trip will take place over 10 days touching the coastline
and entering the De Beers Diamond Fields before we take on the challenges
of the Richtersveld.
